Sanjh is a sculptural bar stool in red-stained teak, handwoven cane and slender metal. Its curved back and arm gently embrace the sitter, while woven wicker spheres and a brass-finished footrest add tactile detail to the light, balanced frame. Named after sanjh, the hour between day and night, it is made for slow evenings and longer conversations.
Each piece is handmade — minor variations in grain, curve, and finish are inherent to the craft and make every piece one of a kind.
Wipe clean with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals. As each piece is handcrafted from natural materials, subtle variations are part of its unique character.

Design Origin Story — SANJH
What if a bar stool could hold an entire evening?
Most bar stools are built to be perched on. This one was built to be settled into.
Most bar stools are designed as simple perches—tall, straight, and purely functional. Sanjh began with the belief that a bar stool could offer more than height. It could offer comfort, presence, and a deeper appreciation for craft.
The form was shaped to gently hold the sitter rather than simply support them. A curved teak back and arm create a natural resting posture, encouraging moments of pause and conversation. Material contrast became central to the design. Solid teak provides warmth and structure, while a handwoven wicker seat introduces tactility and breathability. Slender metal legs bring visual lightness, while woven wicker spheres and a brass footrest create rhythm, balance, and refinement.
More than a seat, Sanjh became an exploration of craftsmanship. Every curve, weave, and junction reflects the skill of the artisan’s hand, celebrating the beauty of materials brought together with precision and care.
The result is Sanjh - a bar stool designed with both ergonomics and material craft in mind. Not just a seat at the counter, but a piece that invites people to stay longer.
The Materials
Every material and finish is chosen with intention.
Solid teak forms the seat and back of Sanjh, chosen for its strength, longevity and ability to retain its sculptural character through everyday use.
Steel provides structural support to the stool, giving strength and stability while keeping the construction visually minimal.
A natural pigment stain developed in our workshop through repeated trials, rather than a commercial wood polish. It sits in the grain rather than on top of it, allowing the teak to remain visible through the colour.

At Chars Diwari, materials are chosen for beauty, durability, and responsibility in equal measure. We work with responsibly sourced teak, and favour natural materials that age gracefully - terracotta, cane, solid teak - valued for their ability to endure decades of everyday living without diminishing. Cane in particular is quick-growing and renewable, harvested without felling. Every piece is made to order in our Jaipur workshop, so nothing is produced to sit in a warehouse.
