thought before the Object
AKR
SAMPLE TEXT
Akr did not begin with a fixed form. It began with the desire to push cane to limits it had not reached before.
Akr began as an experiment in pushing handwoven cane beyond the shapes it is usually asked to take. Rather than deciding the final silhouette first, we allowed the material itself to lead the process — bending, testing and pushing it until we understood how far it could go.
The form emerged through that exploration. Every curve responds to the natural behaviour of the cane — where it bends willingly, where it holds its shape, and where it begins to resist. A custom metal structure gives the piece its foundation, while the weave remains at the centre of its identity.
The mirror came later. Once the form had found its shape, the reflective surface transformed it from an experiment in material into an object that interacts with its surroundings. What it reflects becomes part of the piece itself.
In Process
"Akr is named after ākār — form or shape. It is a piece that was not designed into a shape, but discovered through the limits of its material."
