Design origin story

SANJH

सांझ — sāñjh — dusk, the closing of day

A seat made for staying.

Sanjh began with a simple idea: what if a bar stool could be more than just a place to sit? Most bar stools are designed for a quick moment — tall, minimal, and often without much support. We wanted to create something that felt different. A seat that could make you want to stay a little longer.

The starting point was the idea of comfort and presence. We shaped the back and armrest as a continuous curved form, allowing the body to settle naturally into the seat rather than simply perch on it. The wicker seat was introduced to bring softness and tactility to the structure. Its woven surface creates contrast against the solid teak, while also making the experience of sitting feel lighter and more breathable.

As the piece developed, the details underneath became just as important as the seat itself. The slender metal legs give Sanjh a sense of lightness, while the circular footrest connects the structure and provides a place for the body to rest. The woven spheres were added as a small but defining detail — bringing craft into the metal structure and creating a rhythm across the base.

Sanjh slowly became a composition of contrasts: solid and woven, structured and soft, crafted and functional. What began as an exploration of a bar stool became a seat designed for the moments around it — conversations that stretch longer, drinks that are slowly finished, and evenings that are not in a hurry to end. Sanjh is a bar stool made not just for sitting, but for settling into the evening.

"For moments that make you stay a little longer."
