KUMBH SERIES

कुम्भ — kumbh — pot, pitcher, vessel

Ancient Forms, Reimagined.

Kumbh began with one of the oldest objects in a home: the vessel. Across cultures and centuries, vessels have been shaped from the soil to hold, store and serve. Kumbh takes this familiar form as a starting point, bringing it into a more contemporary context through proportion, material and surface.

This series brings together the two hero materials of the MRID collection — terracotta and natural cane. Though they appear distinctly different in form and texture, both originate from the soil and carry their own relationship with the natural world.

Terracotta forms the body of each vessel, grounding the collection in earth and weight. The natural cane is woven around selected openings and surfaces, introducing softness, texture and a lighter contrast to the solid form beneath. Each of the six vases begins with a different proportion. Tall and architectural. Low and rounded. Narrow, wide or softly curved. Together, they explore how a familiar vessel can change the character of a space simply through its silhouette.

The contrast between terracotta and cane was intentional — earth and fibre, weight and lightness, solid and woven. Both materials retain their individual character while coming together in a single form. Kumbh is a collection of six studies in proportion and material. Six vessels with different silhouettes, designed to stand individually or create a composition when placed together.

"An ancient form, seen differently."
